Commonwealth of Nations

The Commonwealth of Nations, is a group of 56 countries, most of which used to be part of the British Empire. It started in 1949 to help these countries work together on things like trade, education, and human rights, while keeping their own governments and cultures.

Malaysia became a member of the Commonwealth in 1957, the same year it gained independence from Britain. This was an important moment, as it meant Malaysia could make its own decisions and was no longer under British rule. Since joining, Malaysia has stayed active in the Commonwealth and participates in events like the Commonwealth Games.

Malaysia is a diverse country with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous communities, resulting in a rich mix of cultures, languages, traditions and gastronomy. While Malay is the official language, English is widely spoken, and many people also speak Mandarin, Tamil, and local dialects. It has some of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world and is rich in wildlife, with unique species like the Malayan tiger.
